Dhan Rai

Dhan Rai is an older gentleman and family member living in the same triple decker as Buddha Subba and his family. He is in his sixties and makes a remarkable range of bamboo crafts.  These include dalo baskets (which are cone-shaped), ghum (rain hats), doko (open lattice-work baskets) jhoz (potato baskets), khugee (fish baskets), and several more (muda and thunsay). Bamboo was indeed once employed to make an abundance of household and farm practical objects. Back in Bhutan Dhan Rai also built his house and animal barn largely from bamboo. He is always an integral part of the RAW bamboo-gathering expedition out to the grove in Plymouth, MA.
