Many refugees from what had been South Vietnam came to the US in the late 1970s and 1980s, as is well known. They had refugee status. More recently some people from Vietnam have come to the US as economic immigrants, following standard national quota arrangements there. Worcester is now home to both sorts of newcomers from Vietnam. We draw here on Ellen’s and Joan’s many talks with Thay Dung, a glass and wood artisan living in Worcester.
