Hand-stitched Embroidered Wall Hanging

This cleverly embroidered wall hanging depicts flowers in the first and third part of the fabric but also has a middle panel showing the embroiderer’s friends from back home in Syria. Portrayed in close detail, they line up against a green background, looking forthrightly toward the viewer. They recall much more pleasant days before Hiveen and her family were forced to flee Syria due to war. Her old friends are depicted in much personal detail. Hiveen is one of RAW’s artisans who portrays her painful refugee memories and challenges through her art, transforming an aspect of these into something beautiful and evocative.
