Nepali-speaking Bhutanese now living in resettlement in Worcester make a wide and wonderful variety of open-work and closed work woven baskets. In Bhutan these were made for household and farm uses, as containers with a decorative flair. But, the type has gone through many new variations in resettlement times in Massachusetts. Some tiny baskets have a RAW origin and heritage: as purely decorative, festive objects for sale. Those often use bright, pastel colors, making these items resemble miniature Easter baskets of Americana fame. The artisan Kul Maya is innovative and exuberantly creative in fashioning these small baskets.
