Worcester has historically been a city of newcomers. Since about 2000 Worcester has also attracted new arrivals, fully vetted refugees, from Afghanistan, Bhutan, Burma/Myanmar, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, and Syria. The city also has residents who fled violence in Vietnam and Central American nations.  In art-making in various media, refugee artisans find hope and solace. Learn more about the archive...

Our digital archive is distinct from Refugee Artisans of Worcester's own website. A digital archive documents a project, event or community to make sure all worldwide can learn about it, on into the future. Our digital archive is free and open to the public and allows students, scholars, arts communities, makers, and the RAW artisans’ own social circles to learn about the remarkable crafts that forced migrants now resettling in Worcester, MA are making. In ‘crafting a new home’ they enrich Massachusetts art scenes and their own lives.
