Nepali-speaking Bhutanese
Nir Subba, also in her sixties, lives in the first floor apartment in the triple decker and also weaves. She is quiet and deliberative in her comments to us (Rodgers and Umunna 2017, Path to Empowerment, pp. 25-26). Nir also learned to weave on a floor loom in the refugee camp, in the craft house there. She enjoys using pastel colors of thread and often employs plaid patterns as motifs. She also uses alternating bands of colored stripes for some of her other weavings. We asked her where her design ideas come from. She replied quietly that they just come to her.
