Hiveen Rasoul made an impressive, large, colorful embroidery panel that both displayed a variety of stitches and also depicted her childhood memories back in Syria. This panel was displayed at the 2020 exhibition, “Crafting a New Home: Refugee Artisans of Worcester,” that we guest curated at the Worcester Center for Crafts. As in many other Middle Eastern cultures, Hiveen’s childhood world encouraged her to develop fine stitchery skills. She went beyond that, though, to use her embroidery skills to narrate a life journey.
